"Let's get Sarka Walking again!

Sarka's Spinal Damage Treatment & Recovery

Paralysed from an horrific beating, Sarka desperately needs an intensive rehabilitation course to get her walking again.

Sarka is what you call a 100% survivor! She has been at the animal centre for the past three years now after being found so horrifically beaten at around 7 months old that she was badly paralyzed and could only just lift her head. Three years later Sarka can just bring herself to a standing position. She is an incredibly loving and contented dog, satisfied simply sitting in the sun, chewing on her favourite bone and lounging in her newly built enclosure.

Yet we want so much more for her! She deserves as much help as we can give her and the opportunity to do the one thing most of us take forgranted - WALK! And now Sarka's second chance is within reach as we would now like to put Michelle's homeopathic skills to good use again together with some hydrotherapy to help get Sarka walking again!

This is why we have started the "Lets get Sarka walking again" campaign to raise funds for specialised treatment and the special equipment needed to help her regain the use of her legs and we all at the BSAPP have been very touched by everyone's kind response.

Please see bottom of page for her progress updates!

Funds used so far:

  • Transportation to her new foster home: 50 Euros
  • Wood to build her a disabled house: 45 Euros
  • Safety enclosure fencing: 10 Euros
  • Initial Homeopathic Consultation: 105 Euros
  • Large lifejacket: private donation ~ thank you!
  • Rear harness: private donation ~ thank you!
  • Mobility Cart: donated by AnimalRescueFront.org & EddiesWheels.com ~ heartfelt thanks!

Sarka's ongoing costs are 1.80 Euros per day for her special diet and approx. 30 Euros per month for her homeopathic treatment.

Other expenses we would like to cover are for the materials to fully insulate her house in time for winter as we get temperatures of around -30 degrees C here, as well as two large thick fleecy blankets as with her incontinence due to her disability her blankets need to be washed and changed regularly.

Long term, due to it being very difficult to find permanent homes for dogs in Bulgaria, we would like to find her a new home somewhere in Western Europe where homeopathy is more widely used which would be helpful for Sarka's future health needs. So, in order to pay for any transportation costs and excess money from her fund will be put aside for this. If anyone is in a position to offer Sarka a new home, in any country whatsoever, please contact us and we will be more than glad to organise this as it will give us the greatest of pleasure to find her a loving "forever home".

Alternatively you may like to sponsor Sarka's treatment on a monthly basis: if so we will set up reoccurring monthly payments of 15, 10 or 5 Euros, whichever you decide, through Paypal. Your sponsorship will continue until you decide to cancel.

Your kindness is appreciated more than we may ever know!

Update Sept 9th '09:

We allowed Sarka to settle in fully before starting her specialised homeopathic treatment to ensure the stress of the move didn't upset the results. So, we started treatment this weekend (5th Sept) and she's already showing good progress as although she's been able to pull herself to standing using her front legs for quite a while now, she used to only stand and sway a little and if she tried to take any steps she would collapse. Well now she has developed several controlled movements in her legs that we've never seen before and has been able to move her legs independently, bend and unbend her hind legs as well as stand steadily for a long time and even stand on 3 legs! We feel that already she seems to have renewed strength in her back legs and spine so we are really excited and can't thank you all enough for helping to give Sarka this chance!
